EXPLORE PALOMINO THROUGH AN INTERACTIVE MAP THAT REVEALS BOTH ITS BEAUTY AND ITS HIDDEN REALITIES.

EXPLORE PALOMINO THROUGH AN INTERACTIVE MAP THAT REVEALS BOTH ITS BEAUTY AND ITS HIDDEN REALITIES.

Overview

This project was developed during my Information Design minor in collaboration with artist Jan Rothuizen. The goal was to translate a complex, real-world story into an engaging and interactive digital experience.

The focus of the project was Palomino, Colombia—a place defined by strong contrasts. On one hand, it is known for its natural beauty and tourism, while on the other, it faces social and economic challenges that are often overlooked.

Through research and storytelling, we designed an interactive map that allows users to explore both sides of Palomino. Instead of presenting a single narrative, the experience invites users to navigate the environment themselves and discover different perspectives.

This project explores how interactive design and visual storytelling can be used to communicate layered, meaningful stories and create deeper user engagement.

OUTCOME

An interactive storytelling experience in the form of a digital map that guides users through Palomino, Colombia. The map allows users to explore both the touristic and the less visible realities of the region through a self-directed journey.

By combining art, narrative, and interaction, the project transforms information into an immersive experience. It demonstrates how design can make complex stories accessible, engaging, and impactful.

1. Project Overview

Project: What If

Role: UX/UI Designer

Duration: Semester project

Context: Educational game about social media algorithms

Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram use algorithms to personalize content and maximize engagement. Teenagers interact with these systems daily but rarely understand how they work.

This project explores how design can make algorithmic influence visible and understandable for teenagers through playful interaction.

The result is What If, a hybrid educational game combining physical cards, role-play, and digital interaction to help teenagers explore how algorithms shape their online experiences.

Project Overview

Project: What If

Role: UX/UI Designer

Duration: 12 weeks

Context: Educational digital game about social media algorithms

Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram use algorithms to personalize content and influence what users see online. Teenagers interact with these systems every day, but often do not understand how these algorithms work or how they shape their behavior, emotions, and online experiences.

The goal of this project was to design an interactive experience that helps teenagers understand algorithmic influence in a simple, engaging, and playful way.

Through research, co-creation workshops with teenagers, and iterative prototyping, the concept What If was developed. The result is a hybrid educational game that combines digital interaction, physical cards, and role-play scenarios to make invisible algorithmic systems tangible and understandable.

The project explores how playful design, guided reflection, and user participation can help translate complex technological concepts into meaningful learning experiences for young audiences.
